St John’s cares for God’s creation 
At St John’s we’re committed to improving our environmental sustainability and doing everything we can to protect the planet and its creations.
We have been awarded the A Rocha Eco Church Bronze Award for the action we’ve taken so far. This includes:
- our investment in refurbishing the church halls to modern standards of insulation and lighting
- our community garden space, which has transformed a disused space
- our move to online and email notice sheets, except where they really need to be printed
- our move away from paper, throwaway cups for Sunday refreshments
- investment in new screens for the church
- our decisions to move winter services into the halls, to save energy
- our procurement of local and sustainable products wherever possible
What is the A Rocha scheme?
A Rocha runs the Eco Church survey which provides a framework to support churches and their leaders to take practical action on caring for God’s earth. The survey covers five key areas of church life:
- Worship and teaching
- Buildings and energy
- Land and nature
- Community and global engagement
- Lifestyle
At St John’s we have worked our way through the Eco Church survey as a reflection of all that our church is doing. We’re also using the questions in the survey as inspiration for future action and activities.
